Dear friend,
Thank you for being here. These are my own words, and I mean every one of them.
I grew up in Mira Mesa, San Diego, half Filipino and half Irish, which taught me early that there are two sides to every coin. In 2008, California State University San Marcos awarded my team its Project of Distinction, one of only three given that year.
Everything since has been an education in business from the inside: the real numbers behind small companies at a financial institution, co-directing a cosmetology school known as the “Harvard” of its field, and seven years beside a top-producing agent at the number one boutique luxury real estate brokerage in Las Vegas.
Here is what all of it taught me. At the heart of every business is a heartbeat, and the heartbeat is a person. I care for my clients’ businesses as if they were my own, because I know what it costs to build one.
The most important education, though, came at home. My son is eleven and autistic, the greatest gift God has given me. I homeschool him because the system could not give him what he needs. At home he grew fast. Back in a classroom he regressed. So we built a school of our own.
That school is 28th & Vine, a marketing studio and school. Our clients fund it, and every membership gives one seat to a student: their own child, someone they nominate, or a young person we place. The students learn what I do every week for real businesses: how to understand a customer, tell a story, and put AI to work with judgment. I keep the classes small so each one gets my attention.
I believe children should be shown early that they can be part of the family business, grow into it, or start their own. Start them young.
Thank you for being a founding member. Your website is in good hands, and so is the seat.
With gratitude,

Lara Nelson, founder · 28th & Vine, marketing studio & school
